This fabric is woven on a handloom by artisans working with Glocal Weaves, using an extra weft technique, a process where motifs are laid into the cloth by hand with a denser thread across the warp. Each design is built pick by pick, demanding precision, patience, and the skill of highly trained artisans. It is a slow and exacting craft, and one that gives the fabric its depth and character.

Kala cotton is an indigenous variety of cotton grown in the Kutch region of Gujarat, India. It is one of the oldest genetically pure cotton species in the world and is known for its drought-resistance, resilience, and ability to thrive without synthetic inputs or irrigation. This fabric is woven by artisans of Khamir Craft and further embroidered by the Rabari community in Kutch, using a ‘Macchi Kanta’ stitch technique which is often used to stitch two individual panels together.
